Only two of us showed up for today's hike, so we decided to go to Songer Butte instead of the Little Grayback Trail. We started at the Milepost 6 Day Use Area off of Highway 66, which is where the Disk Golf course is located.

We followed the trail around the arm of Emigrant Lake and towards Songer Butte. Along the way we went through a section with a lot of wild roses, which were just starting to bloom. A bit later we noticed some large nests high up in a dead tree, which turned out to be Great Blue Heron nests and there were some young birds in them.

We continued on and made our way to the top of Songer Butte and along the way ran into a young Bassett Hound, but no people.  He seemed to be looking for his humans. He eventually ended up following us up to the top of the Butte. At that point he disappeared back down the trail and we didn't see him again, so hopefully he found his people.

After a snack break on top of the Butte we headed on to Little Songer Butte for another snack break. We then headed back to the car.

It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed it. Lots of flowers and things to see. We saw some Hairy Indian Paintbrush and some Western Dock, identified using Barb's phone app, which we hadn't seen before.

In all we went 6.9 miles with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain.
