                           Faery Falls

A Small group of five, including Texas Mike, showed up for our Memorial Day trip to California. The weather would be mostly sunny with temps in the 60s to 70s.

We were heading down I-5 to view Faery Falls and nearby Lake Siskiyou as we did for the first time last year.

The Falls are a little tricky to find, especially if you take the wrong dirt road turnoff like I did initially.

Back up to Ney Springs Creek Road and down another quarter of a mile and we found the road down to the parking area. The rocky road continues up from the parking which we hiked up for a mile and about 500' of gain to an off-trail that headed down to a very full Faery Falls. We took pics and got a video through the mist as the sun shone brightly. We had the view of the Falls to ourselves but met many late arrivers as we headed back to the cars and our short drive back to Lake Siskiyou.

Lake Siskiyou is a big reservoir, seven miles around, that's fed by the Sacramento, which flows in like a creek and goes out like a river.

This year we followed the trail on the south side of the Lake through shaded forests and down to the beach with many holiday weekend visitors. The Lake trail was mostly quiet and the Lake was calm with birds and boats out on the water.

From the trail, we had a clear view of Mt Eddy and the snow-covered mountain range. To the northeast Mt. Shasta rose through partial cloud cover but was still spectacular with the sun shining off the snow.

We did three miles out and back around the Lake for six and two at the Falls. A total of 8 miles with 500' of gain.

It was a pleasant day hiking with friends and we were back in Ashland by 4 PM.

We drove 150 miles on our RT to California.

Happy Trails,
Rich
