Ashland Hiking Home

A break in the heat wave and the holiday gave us a mix of hikers both old and new.

An 8:30 start at the Upper Lithia TH gave us a cool start to the day’s hike. The trail sign announced 2.9 miles to the intersection with the old Wonder Trail and 4.3 miles to Fell on Knee at the lunch spot on top.

We set out at a moderate pace up the many switchbacks of the new trail.

We met several holiday hikers, dog walkers and joggers along the trail but very few bikers, whoa!

We took our time and had many rest breaks for water, clothing adjustments and just to catch our breath; but only one of our 13 hikers had to leave early to make other connections, while the rest climbed the 1,300’ to the 3,500’ summit.

From the top we had a view of Mt Ashland due south through some haze from California fires.

The group made it to the top by noon, so 2 1\2 hours for ascent; with about 30 minutes for lunch most arrived back at the TH around 1:30, where the temperature on the Park floor had risen to about 80 degrees.

Congrats to the group for completing the 8.6 mile hike!

Happy Trails,
Rich
