August 4: Hobart Bluff
TH- Drive 17 miles up Highway 66 to a right onto Soda Mountain Road for 3 miles to the TH.
Description- Hike up the PCT to a sharp uphill left to Hobart Bluff. Wildflowers on the trail, and scenic views on top. 5 miles with 300' gain. Weather Forecast. Round trip mileage: 40 Miles.
August 11: Sky Lakes Wilderness Leave at 8:30 AM
TH: Take DIM to Highway 140, turn right (east) for 3.2 miles to milepost 41 (sign to “Cold Springs Trail Head”). Turn left (north) onto Road 3651 for 10.1 miles on a dusty road to the Cold Springs TH at road end for parking. EDT: 75 minutes.
Description: Hike 0.6 mile to a fork and take a left onto Cold Spring Trail for 1.8 mi to the intersection with South Rock Creek and Deer Lake Trails. Turn right onto South Rock Creek trail for 0.3 miles. Turn left onto the trail to Lakes Natasha, Elizabeth, and Isherwood (0.6 miles). We will have lunch at one of these lakes and then return the same way to the Cold Springs trailhead and cars. Hike distance: 6.6 miles, elevation gain 400 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving distance: 110 miles.
August 18: Mt Shasta- Panther Meadows to Grey Butte and back, New Monday Hike, Leave at 8:00 AM from Rite Aid
TH: Take I-5 south exit at Central Mt. Shasta (Exit 738). Merge onto Lake St. and head east for 1 mile, passing through the intersection with Mount Shasta Blvd. As the road bends north, continue onto Washington Street for 0.1 miles before continuing onto Everitt Memorial Highway. Once on this road, continue for about 12.5 miles to the Panther Meadow Campground for the Lower Panther Meadow trailhead.
Description: Panther Meadows TH(7,500') to Grey Butte(8,200') Trail out and back. 6 miles RT with about 1,200" of gain. Weather Forecast. EDT one hour and forty five minutes. RT driving distance: 190 miles RT.
August 25: Mt. Scott at Crater Lake Leave at 8:00 AM from Rite Aid Mt Scott (8649') will offer great views of Crater Lake and the surrounding peaks. 5 miles up and back with a gain of 1,276' on a well-maintained trail. Randy and Linda have done this hike, and we've been talking about doing it as an alternative to Garfield Peak. Bring your sunhat, sunscreen, hiking poles, water, and lunch. We can stop at the Annie Creek Cafe post-hike. Weather forecast. RT driving distance: 190 miles RT. Drivers will need to show their Crater Lake or National Parks pass.
